Beloved of God, welcome to the gathering of those who wait, those who hope, those who long:
Out of the regal line of David a child has been born.
We will come.
Yet He was not arrive in a palace, but rather in a shabby barn.
Still we will come.
The fullness of God’s power now given to humanity in flesh.
We will come.
Yet powerless–a needy baby sustained at his mother’s breast.
Still we will come.
The king of the universe has come to bring you to himself.
We will come.
Yet he will live a life cut short, bleeding out alone.
Still we will come.
Beloved of God, welcome to the gathering of the hopeful, the waiting, the longing. Find your savior here.
Lord, we stand before you amazed at the blessing of kinship that you have offered up to us, yet we are a dysfunctional family. We squabble and bicker. We don’t trust our good Father.
Mend us together Lord. Help us love one another.
We struggle to lift up our heads for our necks are bent under the weight of our attempts to be worthy sons and daughters.
Remove our yoke of suffering. Show us your love.
This family of blessing is not one of achievement or merit. It is the acceptance of your son, offering his true son-ship to us.
Help us to see who we are in you Father.
In our confusion we have wandered in the wilderness looking for salvation.
Father, lead us to the promised land.
In our emptiness we have sought to fill our souls with petty comforts.
Father, guide us to the well of living water.
In our brokenness we have sat on the ash heap calling for explanation.
Father, show us your truth.
And to our wandering, to our empty souls, to our muddled minds, You have given us the answer in your son—Jesus Christ.
May we learn to love him ever more. Amen.
